I watched that game (both the Algeria upset of W Germany and the W Germany/Austria game, actually). It was back when PBS would show next day edited versions of the WC games in '82 - they would edit full games down to an hour program.

Ah yes, "Soccer Made In Germany", I remember watching that religiously.

That was it! They had a great announcer - Toby Charles - calling the game from the studio.

PBS also used to show English First Division games, again edited to an hour, in the mid to late 70s. Leeds United, Notts. Forest (and County), Derby, Sheffield Wed., etc. were all mainstays in the top flight back then. Now, not so much...

If I miss a match I wanted to see, the “90 in 30” programs are a food way to see the best part of the action. Wish they would show the highlights at night using that format.

SMIG. Loved that show.

Bayern Munich with Beckenbauer, Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Hamburg with Kevin Keegan. And Toby Charles calling it all. Those were the days.
