The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to protect the governed from our government should they violate the consent of the governed. It has nothing to do with hunting or even self defense (although that is a natural and civil right). I think this truth often gets lost and diluted in efforts to avoid sounding extremist to the opposition. In reality however, historical documents support that purpose, where as there is little to support the use of arms for sport, hunting, or other innocuous purposes. Believe me, when you defend your right by saying you support the tradition of hunting, the anti-gun persona imagines you, walking around, in the woods, out of city limits, with a 3 round limited shotgun, wearing blaze orange. Perfect, anti-gun wet dream.
Our argument must always be the actual intent of the second amendment. Don't let the left define gun rights.
