Paramounts Transformers: Age of Extinction debuted to $100 million in North America, the best number of the year to date and reinvigorating the giant robot franchise. Overseas, it was even more massive in its initial assault, taking in $201.3 million for a worldwide bow of $301.3 million.
The $210 million tentpole, earning an A- CinemaScore despite blistering reviews, is easily the biggest opening of star Mark Wahlberg's career, thanks to a strong turnout by males (64 percent).

Bless you, I rarely go to any movie.
We have dish tho.
$300,000,000 to watch a toaster turn into a robot?
I did not see that in this movie.
Apparently this one is more like the original Transformers, you see from the trailer that Optimus looks like the one from the cartoon.
I have been surprised as to the level that they have done this adaptation to the screen so far.
While not my favorite as it was from my kids era and not my own, the heavy dependance on CGI has not been ruinous to it as some other films have been despite the heavy percentage. How as Marky in the central role?
I heard this movie is really tenuous and plodding...
My remark to my wife and son was that it was too long, and some things could probably have been cut, like the motorcycle chase near the end of the film.
You could bounce a quarter off that tummy.
I will still bitterly cling to the Transformers of the 80s as the only true “robots in disguise”.
there was a time when a summer blockbuster would ht $250m+ on a weekend ... just in the US
how’s that change working for you, America?
are we Detroit yet?
I will try.
Wahlberg does a credible job as the hero who assists Optimus Prime in saving humanity. But along for the ride is his 17 year old daughter and her boyfriend. Wahlberg is not a convincing father figure to me. He is not happy that his daughter is dating. She reminds him that she was born when he was also very young. I thought, that's true, but it still doesn't mean that he is wrong to try to get his daughter through the teen years without getting pregnant. And then I thought, "why are they even bringing up this crap anyway?" To me, it is part of the tedium of the movie and could have been left out.
If nothing else, someone pointed out that they got to trash Chicago and Hong Kong! WOO HOO!
At the time, my kids were watching them. The only names I knew were Optimus Prime, Star Scream, and Megatron. And I didn’t know who was friendly or evil.
I liked her in the first two movies. Unfortunately for her, she got mouthy and was fired from the third one.
I love the Honest Trailers on Youtube
My favorites are Everything Wrong With, Cinema Sins, and The Cost Of (title).
As lame as the plot and writing was, same here. I will stay with the 80s GI Joe comics and to a point the cartoons over the modern incarnation. Even GI Joe Renegades was better than the movie(s) despite the character design and animation style.
i always thought transformers were gay and the storyline was idiotic.
i still do.
