... Belgium coach Marc Wilmots is sweating injuries to two of his four starting defenders captain Vince Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen and holds out hope that a weekend of rest will allow the two to recover in time to face the U.S. at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

CONCACAF keeps going and going and going
Damn the US for letting Mexico in.
Great volley for the Mexican goal.
Miracle save for Mexico.
The battle is on. This is shaping up to be an epic match.
Robben is so deadly. Smart player. The Dutch are getting some opportunities now.
Lukaku has not played that well, Vermaelen is hurt. Belgium looks like they could be defeated a bit the way it’s being taken to Holland here.
2008 Euro, Netherlands did well in the group stage and lost to Russia of all teams.
Netherlands close there.... they know they’ve got to get it going soon,
For me, once the game is at 70 minutes, it’s really hard to get that goal a team needs, we are at 60 minutes.
Really seems the Dutch should have been given the penalty, he stepped on Robben’s foot if I have that correct.
Two stonewall penalties denied to the Dutch. Not good.
-— he stepped on Robbens foot if I have that correct. -—
Until they get a replay rule, that’s the way it goes. The commentator is right. Mexico should have stuck with their original game plan. They can’t withstand 30 minutes of this.
The boxscore shows the Referees are from Portugal.
We will see, this is getting to be a real nail-biter.
Ochoa is the intangible here. He’s been so good.
Awesome run by Robben. He’s lime a shark waiting for his opportunity to strike.
He has been playing out of his mind. Gave Robben nothing to shoot at just now. Angles are good, reflexes are sharp, and van Persie is substituted.
Wow.
Bad volley for Mexico. Wasted opportunity. They’re passing has been outstanding, though. Best I’ve seen in this WC.
Robben should have run through the sliding tackle in the penalty box. He would have gotten a penalty kick out of it. There is no way the ref would have denied a penalty.
Would have been different if he had been outside of the penalty box.
True, but I don’t know how he could have run through it. He was tripped.
It’s too bad that such an important match is down to question for officiating.
Mexico hanging on by their fingernails.
Mexico playing so well also probably means Brazil is better than people think. I mean this is Netherlands, granted, seems uniformly to be thought the Dutch should have been given the PK.
I am talking about his run into the penalty box from the right side where Ochoa saved his shot just before the water break.
Robben was not tripped on that one only because he jumped over the sliding player. Had he simply not jumped, he would have been tripped and gotten the penalty.
DUTCH GOAL
GOL-A-ZO....
I do wonder if Van Gaal will rue the decision to substitute RVP.
But the goal is certainly no less than the Dutch deserved.
