If they would make the goal about 6-8 feet wider and 2-3 feet taller (even if they increased these dimensions in metric), I might watch soccer. I just want the game to have some REAL football scores. Like 35-31. These 1-0 snooze-fests will never attract my eyeballs!!
Maybe we all need to watch the English Premier League, where scoring is more common. I’m actually glad NBC Sports got the Premier League package, so I can watch all the games either on TV or on my iPad Air.
Actually, football is not all that high-scoring. 35-31 is basically 5-4.5. The average NFL score total (for both teams) is 41 points. That's an average of 6 touchdowns per game for both sides. The World Cup averages 3 goals per game - low, but not exactly a tiny fraction of the NFL total.
2’ wider and 1’ higher would probably yield 1-2 more goals per match.
Goalkeepers are much bigger now than 20-30 year ago.
Another sport that needs to consider changing field or court deminsions is volleyball. Womens net should be raised 2-4” and the mens should be raised 4-6”. Each side of the court should be increased .5 meters in width and length.
