I kind of thought Germany would get a goal, then pretty much take the foot off the gas, knowing that a tie still wins the group.
I think deep deep down they didn’t want to run it up on Klinsi, just do enough to be comfortable.
You may be right, but it looked to me they were still trying to score to the end. They were left vulnerable to counter attack as a result of their pressure, and if we were better in our attack, we might have tied it. Heck, that last minute was a wide open opportunity like I said before. We had several other opportunities we squandered with bad passes when it appeared they were pulling some of their defense up too far to support and overlap their offense.
Landon Donovan would have made a great sub for those last efforts, I'm still surprised he got the boot. As a sub in that situation we had today he could have been lethal.
