I care, sort of. While I do enjoy watching pro sports, the NBA ranks well down the list below the NFL, MLB and NHL. With age and questionable maturity, you just have to accept these guys for who they really are.
Mercenary gladiators. Nothing more. They are not role models. With few exceptions, they are not “nice guys.” (Even in the 1930s Leo Durocher said “nice guys finish last.”)
But if you accept that they are simply paid to put on an athletic competition where the attraction is in the uncertainty of outcome, then take it for what it is.
Except for this year’s championship Spurs, who have now won 5 championships in 16 seasons and are made up of nice guys. The Onion has been running articles for years poking fun at Tim Duncan for being such a nice guy. The team plays unselfish basketball, and blew out Miami in the most lopsided finals win ever.
