Churros with horchata ice cream sound like Mexico’s gift to the world. In spite of the fact that the creator, Sylvia Yoo, is apparently Asian. Fusion food at its greasy best!

When I lived in SoCal, I’d often spend weekends at a health ranch in Mexico, and on the way home, always stopped at the churro stand for a bag of the yummy greasy sugary treats fried in an oil drum. Oh, huge yum.

(As I type, I’m munching on little Mexican wafers, “Maria’s,” spread with mango jalapeño jelly.) Far from Mexico now, I do the best I can. )

Churros fresh from the grease on a street side stand is truly one of life’s pleasures. The commercial frozen/warmed crap they serve pretty much everywhere in the States isn’t even the same food.
