In my city, you just have to ask them for a business card, and they'll provide one with their information on it. You have to understand that your situation is "anecdotal".
In many other American cities, that question is an affront which requires a "wooden shampoo".

True, but if you're getting a ticket, you have the officer's info. And if it's illegible on the paperwork, the court clerk can look it up on the computer. No need to demand his information and grab his vest. If you feel "wronged" by the officer, get a lawyer and let him handle it. Sitting in a car is the wrong place to make demands.
