In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

Example sentences:
Only the parasites seemed to live there in a sinuous rush upwards into the air and sunshine, feeding onthe dead and the dying alike, and crowning their victims with pink and blue flowers that gleamed amongst the boughs, incongruous and cruel, like a strident and mocking note in the solemn harmony of the doomed trees.
-- Joseph Conrad, Almayer's Folly , 1895
Malka's voice became more strident than ever. She had been anxious to make a species of vicarious reparation to her first husband, and the failure of Milly to acquiesce in the arrangement was a source of real vexation.

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
2.having a shrill, irritating quality or character:
Hillary Clinton has very strident personality
Enough said.
Give those “strident insects” some diatomaceous earth!
Arrrrgghhh!
Hillary Clinton has A very strident personality
The FOX female talking heads are becoming too strident for me to watch any more — Pirro, Kelly, Ingraham, Carlson, Perino, etc. Of course, OReilly is the worst, and he’s not even female. Where is Jeanne Kirkpatrick when we need her — a woman who could speak truth without being shrill?
A for you!
;)
Don’t say dentist in this room. This is a happy place!
Yes she does. A for you.
One of my friends sounds just like Greta. Except she’s not a scientologist.

Apparently Kelly was trying to school Dick Cheney yesterday.
It works better on the quiet ones, like slugs. Welcome to WFTD!
For some reason, Greta does not bother me. She’s the only one I still watch on a regular basis. She asks real questions and demands real answers (except from Hillary). She doesn’t get “preachy”.
I surprise myself by saying that because I did not have high hopes for her when she came aboard FOX. She has turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
I guess you have bags of the stuff, too.
she doesn’t bother me either, and yes, she was soft on Hillary.
And an F for my proof reading...
I use ground-up eggshells instead. :)
Don’t sweat it. In this room, we think faster than we type all the time.
So help me, they had better stay on this and find the backups and metadata.
Has the new grad commented on this tactic?
