ALON® is an ideal material for applications requiring high strength light-weight durability and transparency in the face of world's most demanding environments.

So "glass" can now be a structural component. Kewl.

All glass is very strong. The problem is that it’s brittle and prone to shatter. This is why you temper steel knives, it removes hardness but makes the edge tougher—resistant to chipping.

Hopefully someone out there can explain this more clearly than I, but construction materials have to be tough and resilient.

Thanks All for the Look/Replies. I will get to each one here in a few. I'm in catch up mode from Sunday being interrupted by Kid trying to kill the motor in her truck by overheating it and the ensuing repairs.
