Isis has harnessed a range of social media tools to spread graphic pictures of slaughter and territorial gains, facing few if any curbs from the world’s biggest technological companies.
The terror group’s use of Twitter from an array of accounts has hit the headlines, but the group has also designed and put up for sale applications that allow it to post its propaganda direct to users. Studies show a huge response to the groups social media activity.
One product The Dawn of Glad Tidings, abbrieviated to Dawn, was sold through the Google Play store. Before being taken down it was been used to circulate more than 40,000 tweets in recent days as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham made lightning gains across a swathe of Iraq.
One of the most notorious messages sent through the app was a cartoon of fighters carried in a convoy of trucks past a sign reading "Baghdad" which was tagged: "#ISIS we are coming Baghdad".
