And now that I have downloaded the regulations from FIFA’s website, maybe not. There is a provision for replacing players prior to qualifying matches, but the wording is not specific as to whether it applies to the World Cup proper.
I may stand corrected :)
...unless we move the game to another stadium without telling them..
I’m on a couple of other sites trying to research it now; and given that I don’t (yet) see a raging debate about Donovan or not; I’m gonna guess your original point stands.
Portugal lost their first-choice left back and their top striker to injury against Germany as well. They will be at least as banged up as the USA and with Pepe out through suspension, I like our chances. Of course there is still Cristiano Ronaldo to deal with and that is still saying quite a bit.
You can download the official regs at reference 1 here ..

Tell me what you see. I’d love your thoughts.
Only Ronaldo. LOL
Thanks, that actually makes sense.

Yeah, I know. “Just” CR9.
Hmm.
...And Sampson destroys his own team before the game.
“replacement due to serious injury up to 24 hours before the team’s first match”...so yeah, they have what they have from here.
Is Portugal that bad or is Germany that good? I saw Portugal got curb stomped today.
Grr. That’s what I read too.
Wondolowski? I’m just hoping Jozy can come back by the knockout stages if we make it that far. That injury looked ugly.
Good point. LOL
Germany is excellent. Portugal didn’t help themselves by going down to ten men early on but the score of 4-0 was well deserved. I think Portugal is a better team than they showed but they are down three key men to play the USA and I think it’ll be a good match.
Germany is that good. But Portugal was down a man for most of the match, Pepe being Pepe.
Buddy of mine rewound Jozy’s injury on High Def/slo-mo and said he saw the hamstring bulge and separate. He’s no doctor, however...
“Someday, well win the World Cup.”
I agree. I grew up playing baseball, and loving baseball - and I still do. I didn’t like soccer, admittedly in part because I felt that liberals loved it specifically because it wasn’t an American sport.
That said, I now really, really love soccer. It takes a ton of stamina, and a lot of talent to do what the best players do. I just got back from Brazil. It was an incredible experience and I would love to see the US someday win a World Cup.
But let’s keep playing baseball... There’s still nothing more difficult in sports IMHO than hitting major league pitching. Yeah, I’m very biased.
Ooof. A rupture would be the worst. Hoping that is not the case.
You are a FReeper of superior sporting intelligence. :)
Love baseball, love soccer.
Agree, but he is hurt. I really think his performance today was affected by his tendonitis.
