I put Soccer & World Cup in same category as the WNBA

Feels like this soccer crap is being forced on us on ESPN, etc. Yes, just change the channel but why is there this effort to make believe that Americans love soccer and love the WNBA? They are two artificially created.
TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: soccer; wnba; worldcup

The WNBA is about flopping and acting too?
To: nickcarraway
The WNBA is financed by the NBA and would not be able to support itself on it’s own.

If you don’t like it, don’t bother watching it. I plan to watch as many of the games as possible. Get used to the fact that more Americans are watching soccer now than ever before.

Why support the MSM propaganda to begin with? Ditch cable/Dish and get a freaking hobby.

So you are saying, they take money from Donald Sterling, which basically makes them racists?
To: ReaganÃœberAlles
Umm, don’t watch it? Seems easy.

I put Soccer & World Cup in same category as the WNBA I think you may then be at least partially gay, seeing Soccer players as scantily clad women.
Perhaps you should seek therapy or a priest or something.

If I am going to watch the soccer live or expanded soccer reports there are plenty of foreign-foreign language channels carrying that stuff like BBC World or Univision or Galavision(Televisa).
I’ve spent a half hour or so doing so when I feel like it and I’m not being sucked in.
But if the networks in this country can hype soccer and suck us all in to look at it, they can sell ads and make more money.
AND WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT DISNEY-ESPN AND COMCAST....SARC

Personally I don’t give a rip about soccer but what are you recommending it its place? Live coverage of Baraq golfing in Palm Springs?

I think a better analogy between WNBA and soccer is that WNBA is where you get the people least likely to play basketball well to play basketball, and soccer is where you get people to use the least effective part of their bodies to control where a ball is sent.
In both cases you generate a frustrating spectacle for the audience where far more failures occur than successes. And failures not like those in baseball where a well trained pitcher outsmarts a well trained batter 2 out of 3 times, but where someone who can mostly just use his feet is prevented from getting a goal by someone who can use his entire body.
This frustration is most likely what leads to soccer hooliganism.

All sports are artificially created. I don’t think anybody is trying to pretend the WNBA is popular. The World Cup on the other hand consistently got better ratings that the US Open over the weekend, so it’s at least a little popular.

Bill Rasmussen, ESPN's fouuder, has some interesting remarks about the
before it grabbed the major sporting events. In the early 80s, I recall a number of table tennis tournaments on ESPN.
