“So, what do you suggest? That all laws be suggestions?”
I don’t have a suggestion, but we are living in a vampire state that sucks money out of us. The cost of speeding tickets keeps climbing and they’ve lowered the trip point at which they right them to 7mph over the limit. This lady is facing the same thing. If the kids don’t show the school loses money, so they’re replacing it with fines. Probably she had no control over the kids. Two thousand dollars is more than most people, especially with seven kids, have in the bank. Seventy-five percent of wage earners are living paycheck to paycheck.
My first suggestion is to cut down the size of the vampire. We have way too many government employees. It’s not only their wages today but all the retired people and all the benefits and future retirees. We simply can’t afford such a large government (at all levels.)
It took 31 posts to get to the underlying truth here: the system is set up to maximize the number of government employees the economy can “carry”... And they are always pushing the envelope on that score.
Ditto everything you stated.
“cut down the size of the vampire. . . “
It wasn’t the $20 truancy fines but rather the court costs that drove up the debt to $2000.
I’m sure this woman had to be on one welfare program after another with 7 kids and no father in the home. Rather than send her to jail the authorities could have deducted her truancy fines from her welfare checks thereby avoiding all these ridiculous court costs.
I also wonder if she had the choice of going to jail or having her fines deducted from her welfare, whether she would opt for a couple of kid-free days in jail considering her history of somehow birthing 7 kids with no father.
To Gen Blather,
Don’t want you to think that my previous post to you was in any way a disagreement with your post. I was agreeing with you that the Leviathan vampire is the government and in this case the court costs.
The judge should also have had the option ( which maybe the law in Pa. didn’t allow him ) to shame the mother by having her walk the streets with clapboards proclaiming her as a truancy mom.
