Word For The Day, Monday, June 9, 2014 maleficent
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
maleficent; adj.doing evil or harm; harmfully malicious: maleficent destroyers of reputations.
Etymology:167080; back formation from Latin maleficentia maleficence; see -ent
Hailing from the Latin word meaning "the dice" or "chance" alea, aleatory first surfaced in English in the late seventeenth century.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
I’m glad you had the extra time, and so sorry she was lost-losing a much loved pet is awful. Is Jules doing okay?
Sometimes you wonder where
Some insane ideas come from-
And if those who promote them
Are maleficent or just dumb
Like all the silly whining
About what other people eat
What they consider enjoyable
From website to edible treat
Nannies should mind their own-
Otherwise the whole Obama bunch
Will be held to the preaching-
Beginning with Michelle’s lunch...
“Susan Rice has a price” You made a rhyme right on time...
You are right-the writer needs a grammar coach-we do expect elected officials we sent to DC to speak better than we do-don’t we?
yes, i had people in the passport ofc saying oh there’s an ofc in DC etc where there’s no wait. I will take my chances, this place is 2 min from my house.
i think he is ok, he looks a little sad, but right now he is barking his ass off at the workmen across the street that he can see from the study window. OH let me tell you what happened this AM. i was sitting at the kitchen table he was at my feet, xshub had left for work about 5 min or so before and i hear this thumping around in the garage. i thought, what did he forget that he’s back here for? and he didn’t come in and i still heard the thumping so i went out to see what he was doing and as i opened the door from the laundry room to the garage i saw what i thought was a mangy looking cat exiting the garage, but when he turned to look back at me i saw the BANDIT EYES and thought OMG a damn raccoon is in my garage trying to get into the dog food bins in there! He could not get the tops off, because the one screws on, and the other has a clasp. i swear we have aggressive wildlife in this neighborhood! we had a doe in the yard literally 5 feet from the house, eating apples which fall in our yard from the neighbor’s tree last weekend and then again this past Saturday, and then we had had the fox on the back deck a few months back. i feel like they are all pressed up against our windows wanting to come in the house with us, LOL!
That is so cool to have the critters come in so close in the burbs, isn’t it? They are the dominant ones out here, so they are everywhere, but I love having them around, even if it means I have the garden fenced.
Those locking can tops work really well-the only varmint that can get into them are rats, and maybe determined squirrels-and only if the container is plastic.
You want my family of bears? Mama and four cubs. Sounds like they would fit right in.
i’ll expect them to be knocking at the front or back door!
positively chilling. A+++
We may have bears here again before too long-they are making a comeback after people who didn’t know anything killed them all 100-150 years ago. The fine for killing a bear is $10,000, and you can go to jail. It will probably be a really long time before bear hunting is allowed here...
I picked some catnip from the garden for my ungrateful shelter cats to enjoy, and while I was sorting and hanging it, oregano and basil, some fell on the floor and I walked through it a few times before I picked it up.
Titus followed me to the desk, and has ahold of my bare foot with both sets of front claws, sniffing, rubbing and purring-I’m pretty sure if I move my right foot before he is completely stoned, it will be shredded...
Hold still, hold very still...
