The Girl From Ipanema
Also known as Garota de Ipanema. Josh Turner and Larkin Dodgen attempt the Tom Jobim classic that made Bossa Nova popular and launched Astrud Gilberto's singing career. Forgive my Portuguese. Guitar is a Gitane D-500; mics are a pair of Audio Technica AT2050's, camera is a Kodak Playsport. Thanks to Carson McKee (channel: drakeelliot) for helping with the recording. Please feel free to leave thoughts and suggestions!

Basia I haven’t heard that name in eons
I originally heard from Sergio Mendez Brasil 66
Thanks Basia has a great voice
She definitely has natural talent. Vocal training in holding her notes and voice control would make her fabulous.
Basia made a album a few years ago, “It’s That Girl Again”, which was really good....She looks like a Polish grandmother now, but the voice is as good as ever.
Brazil 65 was the best.
Blame it on the Bossa Nova.
I love Swing Out Sister, especially their early stuff. And in addition I have a huge crush on Corrine Drewery.
Thanks for the link to Bebel Gilberto performing “River Song.” Very nice, indeed!
They were absolutely great!
Lani Hall and Herb Alpert are celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary this year....Nice to see a rare showbiz marriage that succeeded.
I prefer the Homer & Jethro version - The Gal from Possum Holler
I saw Flora Purim & her Husband AIRTO (eye-ear-toe)one Night in a club it snowed and there were 20 of us... Awesome

If I was a billionaire being the perv I am I would have that in front of my bed every morning and they would all say ‘yes Master’ and get me a beer when I snapped my finger.
Wow that is fantastic. I read that there was a bar but I had no idea it still existed.
Similarly, Astrud Gilberto was a novice when she recorded the song. I guess you could say she lacked voice control, too, but it fit so well with the song. I think they waited until the last minute to tell her that there was a song they wanted her to record at the studio.
Love that group!
her voice reminds me of someone else... maybe a little of Amy MacDonald, and a little of that dude who goes by the name Passenger. I think it is someone else though who she is reminding me of, just I have no idea who most of these pop singers are.
Very talented kids. I hope they will write some of their own music in time. I watched several of their videos and they have a lot of talent and ability.
Please pass my request to them to record, “Jolene” Dolly Parton’s hit. Miley Cyrus did a fair job of it (before she went off the rails). Ask them to slow it down and let Miss Larkin use her voice to really plea the lyrics.
Thanks for posting.
“Write their own music” is exactly what they need to do or get someone else to do it for them. I see so much incredible talent like this today but none of them write their own music which is truly how real music careers start. Just think: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Buddy Holly, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, were all about the same age as these two - they had talent but they did something that pushed them to the next level: They wrote their own music. I’ll never understand the purpose of shows like American idol. Good singers are a dime a dozen. But good singers who write great songs are a billion dollars per.
Yes, she was the wife of Joao Gilberto, a singer who recorded with Jobim (a fabulous songwriter). They wanted a version in English, and Joao's wife, Astrud, had the best English. (As it happens, I believe she also had perfect or close to perfect pitch). Her voice inflection -- or lack of it -- was so extremely cool and impersonal, like a model on a runway, that kind of in your face "I'm gorgeous." You couldn't see her, but her voice sounds like you'd imagine coming from all those beautiful girls in the mirror pic above! {^)
