This is a secret ONLY FOR FREEPERS. So keep this to yourself.

Indianapolis doesn’t have traffic jams unless there is a wreck or construction. If you want to know the secret, check out an interstate map of Indy.

Disclaimer: Life long residents of only Indianapolis are unfamiliar with what bad traffic really is. When they say “traffic jam” they mean traffic has slowed to below the posted speed limit.

Passed through Indy a number of times, even when part of the beltways were closed or congested due to construction. There are so many alternative routes to avoid the traffic, there is no need to get caught in it if you have a good map.

The flat terrain helps with the smooth traffic flow.

You can build roads anywhere, unlike Pittsburgh where everything funnels to "The Point".

The Point is, among other things, where the three rivers meet, where the French built Ft. Duquense which led to the French and Indian War and where Lewis & Clark launched their flatboats for their famous expedition into the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. So it has been a site of traffic congestion for a long, long time.
