There is no quarter given in the bible to excuse sin because of the environment someone is raised in, none.
I've not once suggested that sin be excused. Not once. Neither do I disagree with the remedy you articulate. We differ on where the sin occurs, and my position is that when you state that homosexual desire (that can lead to the sinful behavior) is itself a conscious choice, you are (with rare exceptions) making a demonstrably untrue statement that accomplishes nothing beyond making you appear to be self-righteous and wholly lacking in the compassion that scripture dictates we have for all men, including our enemies.
If you want to hear the applause of men for making such a pronouncement, fine. But if you have any hope of actually reaching someone with the message of rebirth who desperately needs to hear that they can be liberated from such feelings, you cannot begin by calling them liars, telling them that they consciously chose something that actually developed in them slowly over time without their understanding of it.
