I am so sorry that is the legacy that your father left you with. But, he was still your father, he gave you life. My guess is that you are a great man/woman who has always been there for their children, if you have them.

My dad was part of "The Greatest Generation" that fought WW2. Hard drinking and hard fighting. I am the youngest of four brothers. Our father abandoned us after our mother died. We were in and out of foster homes and lived with this relative and that relative. I suppose they done what they could at the time. My dad chose the life he lived and I have no resentment towards him. I raised two beautiful daughters who never knew what is was like to be hungry. I have a 16 month old blue eyed,red haired grand daughter who will hear lots of stories about her great grandfather.
