Shuttle bombing.

Here are some great pictures. The Germans bombed the base and were pretty effective: http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=515541

There was a reference that Stalin sent all the workers in contact with Americans to the gulag. If they used any American expression such as “hey Joe” that was enough for the gulag, but I could not find any more info.

The Americans were keen on the concept of shuttle bombing for the reason that all of occupied Europe theoretically came under the Norden bomb sight. The Soviets were never keen to the idea, primarily because Stalin didn’t want Americans calling ordinary Soviets “Ivan” on American air bases. “Ivan” just might see that the Western capitalists have a better life than Stalin’s Worker’s Paradise, and he might get ideas.

“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.” -Josef Stalin
