and servant to the cat. We owned dogs when I was a kid, and it fell to me to shovel up their poop from the lawn and bury it. And bathe them and remove ticks. Cats are a lot less work. They bury their poop and clean themselves. I like dogs, but I've never owned one as an adult.

They bury their poop and clean themselves. I like dogs, but I've never owned one as an adult. Which makes cats a better choice for professionals who are not home that much. So it's not so much the case that "smart people prefer cats" as "two-income couples have no time to properly care for a dog".

Yes. Cats don't bark. Cats neatly bury their crap given the opportunity.
On the other hand, the older I get, the more I like dogs as well.
