So they'll have all your info when they arrest you for catching too many or too small fish. And for the money. It's always the money.
About 3 years ago, we had to pull the water pump that was used to water the yard out of the river or be fined. People have watered their yards from the river for generations without any harm to the river. You can have a pump on the very edge of the land which will pump the very same water and that's fine. But, no, no, no, you can't have the pump out in your boathouse anymore. Now days, you have to water your yard from the house water well pump (sure, put more wear and tear on your drinking water). The house water well had to be registered that same year so one day they can ban those, too. Now that people have to use the filtered and sometimes treated drinking water, which is still water from the same river source, for their yards instead of the naturally fish fertilized water from the river, they're putting chemical fertilizers on their grass which is harmful to the river and the fish. Crazy. No common sense at all and they wonder why there's now the huge expense of clearing out all the algae and other vegetation messing up the river.
My husband’s great-great grandfather left his 5 and 6 year old sons in a compound he had built and went back to Texas to retrieve his daughter.
A few decades ago, you could build a house in a rural area without permits, inspections or fees, and it was legal to manufacture a product in a small shop.
“The hidden issue here is that the further you go back in time to draw the line, the smaller the role of government in suppressing liberty.”
At the turn of the twentieth century Britain ruled the greatest empire the world had ever seen or would see again. About a quarter of the world’s population was under British rule of some kind or another.
At that time however it was said that the only government official a British person was likely to have any business with the course of an average day was the post man who delivered his mail.
At that time British people were free to smoke or imbibe what they liked and own whatever firearms they felt like, oh and policemen were armed with nothing more powerful than a foot long wooden truncheon and a whistle.
Isn’t greater government control a marvellous thing?
Ha I remember running through those clouds as a kid as my dad would spray. He’s now in a Little Sisters of the Poor home a.d is doing well. Considering he was part of the occuping force in Hiroshima ...was exposed to who knows how much radiation. ..started smoking 2 packs a day in the army...drank his fair share...and his 88Th birthday will be Tuesday. It’s sick that Eric Holder and the DOJ are suing the nuns because they refuse to cooperate with Obama’s culture of death.
Used to be able to visit the White House, aka The People’s House. Ok, you still can but only if you’re a member of the New Black Panthers or a middle eastern islamic terrorist. Used to be We the People could view the visitor’s record to know who was coming and going from our house.
My prayers for your father. The Little Sisters are one of the last remaining charities to which I contribute. Most of the rest, I just want to say “complain to the ones you vote for!”
The right thing to do there is probably open defiance, and if the town comes after you raise a hoot and holler the likes of which they will never forget.
Let me count the ways.
There is almost no amendment in the bill of rights that isn’t routinely violated and ignored by the govt. I think they’re dying to re-implement quartering of soldiers tho /j
I believe it IS an issue of freedom.
Back then, more people had firearms on them, and criminals were actually afraid of crossing paths with regular folks who wouldn’t put up with any crap. Nowadays, trial lawyers and liberals have enabled the criminal to feel confident that they can get away with whatever they want, with no fear of repercussions.
This is why we DON’T send children along on busses with addresses in their pockets, let them be gone from sunrise till sundown, etc.
Two guys form the Brigade were in a station wagon with a huge bazooka in the back, more or less visible, but they were only on a short drive to perform some task or other:
Bad luck, but a cop pulled them over for some minor traffic violation, and as the officer strolled up his eyes got really huge --weapons were less controlled back then, especially in Florida, but even by those standards this huge weapon would grab the attention of a common Patrol Officer pretty fast:
The guys were still under security requirements, and talked back and forth in Spanish about what to do.
The one guy wanted to appeal to the officer's patriotism and intimate that they were no criminals, but up to some spooky training.
Wiser to the law, the other guy shushed him and handled the conversation with the lawman:
"This bazooka is a single-shot weapon and NO PERMIT is required officer --there's no crime, here. Radio your superiors, and they will tell you the same "
Incredulous, the officer complied, and 10 minutes walked exasperatedly back unto the driver window:
"You are free to go "
WITH A BAZOOKA
!!!
Ever tried to buy a gun? Ever tried to carry a gun? Ever refused to talk to a cop? Ever tried to visit a government building? Ever tried to wait at an airplane terminal to wait for a loved one? Ever tried to refuse baking a cake to a gay marriage couple? Ever tried to refuse ANY customer for their sexual orientation? Ever tried to insult Islam? Ever tried to point out obvious failures of the black community ‘leadership?’ Ever tried to buy something over $5000 cash? Ever tried to get a hotel without showing ID? Ever tried to get a cell phone without showing ID?
NOW... On the flipside Illegals, welfare queens, and Muslims are freer than they have ever been. Not only do we throw out a welcome mat for illegals but we’ll pay all your bills and give you lots of free stuff. Best of all, you don’t have to tell us anything about yourself, EVER.
bkmk
Not surprising how many "conservative" FReepers jumped on the band wagon.
Drive across the country and try to find out how many cameras have chronicled the trip. My guess is that it would take several big albums to put all the pics.
So many replies....a crying shame. Please, peeps, let your children and grandchildren know about this.
I did a perfunctory scan of the posts on this thread (I'll come back and read it more thoroughly after I run some errands), and my heart began to hurt. I'll tell you the truth. As much as I love the internet and our modern-day conveniences, I'd give them all up in a heartbeat to be able to turn back the clock and enjoy the liberties we took for granted back then.* Who knew how quickly and quietly they could be chipped away?
*The one thing I'd change about those days is the racism.
