The article doesn't say how old the child is. Was he 15, or 8? The judge also noted that the child would have had to walk home along a highway.

I've been to Kauai, and spent a week just up the road in Princeville. The only highway in that part of the island is a two lane road, and there aren't any sidewalks.

At first glance, this is outrageous. But, if you dig a bit deeper, you have to wonder if the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The only reason I can see for the judge’s decision is if the road was dangerous and the child placed at risk for injury or death.

i waked over a mile to school from time I started school and lived in the Silverlake hills in Los Angeles and the only sidewalks were the last 200 yards.
