Toddler critically injured by ‘flash bang’ during police search

A 19-month-old boy critically injured when a police device was tossed into his bed has a 50 percent chance of surviving, his parents said today. But a northeast Georgia sheriff defends the officers’ actions, calling it a tragic accident. “The last thing you want is law enforcement to injure someone innocent,” Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There was no malicious act performed. It was a terrible accident that was never supposed to happen.” Hours after a confidential informant said he bought methamphetamine from Wanis Thometheva at a Habersham County home late Tuesday, officers returned to the home to arrest him.

They could have gone to the front door, announced their presence and their warrant and gained entry. But then they wouldn't get to play with their pricey toys.

Reminds me of the Pima County SWAT team that riddled Jose Guerena with 60 bullets. Instead of having a detective serve the warrant and walk Guerena to a squad car, they chose a paramilitary assault. Naturally, being the corrupt wanne-be Rambos that they are, they lied about seeing muzzle flashes from inside the house. They had the privilege of paying his widow 3.4 million plus all the costs of getting to that settlement. Bet the taxpayers appreciate that! I hope the responsible government entities and personnel in this case get soaked. If not, who knows, perhaps blowing up sleeping infants will be the new rage among uniformed thugs looking to get their rocks off? It's probably more satisfying to them than just blasting barkers.

If I was sympathizing with the cops I would not have posted an article like this. A gernade is thrown into a playpen and no one seems to think an investigation is even warranted? Not the Sheriff, not the GA Bureau of Investigation, no one? There are many ways to get into the house without violence before trying force: turn off the water and electricity and telephones, use loud speakers to announce your presence, allow the innocents to come out, search release them. But its far more macho to bust the door down at 3am and go back to the station yuk yuking about the looks on their faces when you got in the house.

The article says they cops didn’t know any children were in the house. It also says the man they were trying to arrest was not there. They arrested him later, at another house.

They clearly did not do any surveillance of the place. None. Nada. Zip. That

“Now the cop that threw the grenade has to live with this the rest of his life.”

And if it had been my grand-child, he/she would have to die with it for the rest of his/her short life...

You never know...he might decide to claim PTSD, go on disability leave and retire at a higher pension rate.

All this because of some dirt bag CI trying to save his own skin?

How about staking out the house to follow up on the information first?

How about determining who the occupants of the house are?

Nope, right to WWIII military operations.

NO, this is not a tragic accident. This is another example of pigs making others pay the price so that they can avoid any possibility, however slight, of harm.

Flashbangs are a MILITARY device, meant as a weapon of WAR, for tactical missions in which killing the target is not desired, or you don’t want to destroy equipment. that doesn’t make it safe. In war, if a flashbang harms an enemy, no one really cares.

Cops, and some here wonder why so many people have a massive hate for cops. Well, this is one example of why.
This happened a few months ago where cops raided a house on suspicion of of a meth lab. And they were wrong. Innocent family, innocent little girl burned so the big bad pigs could stay safe from the Boogeyman. AND THEY DIDN’T learn. They never do.

>>>The kid is just acceptable collateral damage in the war on drugs. Never mind the president is supporting use of drugs and encouraging the people who sell it.

The war on drugs is the most idiotic of our foreign and domestic policies. We spend tax dollars protecting the poppy harvest in Afghanistan on the one hand, and spend tax dollars arresting people selling the products of the poppy harvest on the other.

Its the height of hypocrisy.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All take notice - pity to the cop - not the sleeping child that the cop threw a grenade at. Yup, too bad for the cop. Well, that kid should not have chosen a drug dealer to live with.”

Is anyone really foolish enough to believe that actually bothers them? They know this is a possibility, and did it anyway.

“Reminds me of the Pima County SWAT team that riddled Jose Guerena with 60 bullets. Instead of having a detective serve the warrant and walk Guerena to a squad car, they chose a paramilitary assault.”

They knew his job and hours and everything. There wasn’t one reason they couldn’t go to his job and arrest him there, other than it wouldn’t be as much fun.
Notice they made sure he had sufficient time to die before letting anyone try and help him? Like maybe they didn’t want any story that contradicted theirs?

Watch the video some time. Every last one of them was leaning around the guys up front, making sure each of them got their own personal shot it. Not one could resist the opportunity to be in on a legalized killing.

They had the privilege of paying his widow 3.4 million

Did one thin dime of that come out of any cop's own pocket? Did a single nickle come from the cops' pension funds?

Did any cop involved in this get fired? Time off without pay? Promoted?

Nice try at some damage control after the beatdown you are taking on this thread but you are not fooling anyone here tonight noob. Your “Cop haters on FR’ crack, (on another thread about 3 or so weeks back), is remembered.

After getting your bell rung with a sledgehammer here, ya think the majority of Americans have got a belly full of military commando style policing yet?
