I was such a wise-ass I’m embarrassed now. My idea of a joke was to looked shocked and say to a pregnant woman who was with her husband: “Who did this to you!?”

Is that better or worse than looking pleased, and then asking the obviously pregnant couple “Congratulations! Do you know who the mother is?”

I recall being in the hospital room with my wife trying the comfort massage and talking that we had learned in birth class. At one point she grabbed me by the neck and yelled “GO AWAY!! YOU DID THIS TO ME!!!”
