I’m afraid somebody is going to die doing one of these stunts. I know a woman died in a water drinking contest that didn’t allow a bathroom break for an extended period. I think Adam Richman (Man Versus Food) has stopped doing the eating challenges. He had an easy one recently (at least it aired recently), putting away a 48-ounce Porterhouse at Shula’s restaurant.
The late Blair River comes to mind. 6ft 8in, 575 pounds. Former gentle giant spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill, died at 29 from pneumonia after a bout of flu.
"Cynical people might think this (River's death) is funny," the restaurant's founder Jon Basso told the Arizona Republic. "But people who knew him are crying their eyes out. There is a lot of mourning going on around here. You couldn't have found a better person."
