Interesting that you mentioned she wouldn’t take food from you for a while. My best childhood friend always had German shepherds, her parents were from Germany and were very strict people. Their first dog was a guard dog and she told me he had been trained not to accept food, ANY food, from strangers, so that potential burglars wouldn’t be able to poison him by tossing a poisoned steak over the fence or whatever. Obviously your poor doggie underwent some harsh “training” for this purpose; bad guy might have been a drug dealer looking for a guard for his wares, who knows.

I worked a home service job going into people’s backyards for 20 years. In all that time the only two aggressive dogs I was unable to bluff my way thorough were both chows.
