Since the beginning, Fleming took great care in describing every detail of James Bond, and 007 greatly reflected his own image. However many people find that his choice of firearm, the 418 Beretta, was a poor one.

I carry a Beretta Jetfire .25 in a wallet holster. Unlike my .45, it is always there & it has never, ever jammed.
With a round in the tip-up barrel, that’s nine ready to go. Cock & fire.
BTW, is it true that in a pistol made in both .25 ACP & .22lr caliber, that the .25 is more reliable because it is rimless, vs. the .22? Real question.

A paragraph and a half after writing, Flemings handgun knowledge wasnt great, the author displays a picture of a Walther PP and captions it, Walther PPK. How would a modern-day Brit know what a handgun looks like, especially some specific model?

Bond needed to stick with Glocks. The Bond novels were written in the 1950-60s, 20 years before Glock's time.

IIRC, the fan recommending the change was the aforementioned Geoffrey Boothroyd. His 1970 work “The Handgun”, a comprehensive history of the development of pistols & revolvers, remains a classic.

It is all fiction, but great fiction.
Flemming's Vesper Martini isn't fiction. I have one almost every night. NOMS!
