I discovered it at a video store some years back after never hearing of it before. An enjoyable historical melodrama even though I thought it stretched credibility that Richard Burton’s character would prefer the relatively drab Carolyn Jones over the gorgeous Martha Hyer(who never looked more beautiful than in this film IMHO) and somehow he never noticed her until after Jim Backus pointed out her character’s crush on him.
If it were made today, I think it would make a good TV miniseries were they could take more hours to dwell on the history and develop the characters more.
I have also never seen Cimarron, guess I will have to check it out too.
