Posted on a local Facebook page. The photo quality is poor. Is this photoshopped?
Got it. Thanks.
The DC-10 is real. It was used back in 2007.

A 747 water bomber has also was tried in 2009.

If there was a fleet of 747s on standby they could stop the largest of fires in a hurry, but for some reason they don’t really seem to be interested in doing this.
Not quite LOL. Ask any sailplane pilot. The heated air rises as a thermal and the birds (depending on species) use it either to ascend or to not have to flap their wings as hard.
Evergreen flew modified 747s (and before that strictly helicopters), not DC-10s. Read the wiki page I linked. The DC-10s are not owned by Evergreen. They are owned by 10 Tanker, LLC.
It's at the bottom.
Probably from a cell phone camera.
747 probably unsafe to fly that low and wake turbulence may fan the flames.
So they really are trying to kill us by driving their beaks through the windshield!
But heated air is less dense. It’s freaky how many times I’ve read the classic “Parakeet got out of his cage, flew around the room and landed in the fying pan that was in use.”
And the drop of birds over hot roadways.
I think sailplanes and these bird examples have some differences. I agree “hot air rises” but there’s the “and it’s less dense” problem.
In any case, that's a ballsy maneuver!!!
I saw several planes up that day .. live on local TV. We had units from all over CA who came to help out.
I’m fairly certain this plane is not part of the San Diego group - but I know there were a lot of planes up that day. They would barely get one fire put down and another one would pop up. Logistically, it didn’t appear to be like any other natural fires we’ve had here since 2003.
Late last night it was reported that an accelerant had been found at all but one of the fires.
Saw it live!
Later they showed the 747 tanker dropping it’s load of 22,000 gallons.
you never know why someone might want to fake such a photo so no certainty here due to the quality - but it’s believable.
Those aircraft are not the same photos.. Different angles.
In one picture, the top of the near engine extends above the fuselage. In the other, it doesn't.
Well they did use the DC10 to fight the fire in San Marcos, so maybe real.
Late last night it was reported that an accelerant had been found at all but one of the fires.
Sources: All but one fire burning in San Diego County have a suspicious ignition point
There's a video of the start of the Carlsbad fire taken by a landscaper. He said he saw the fire start, then a golf call pull away. The golf cart stopped about 100 yards away to watch, then sped off. The fire spreads very quickly.
A channel 9 reporter had mentioned the “suspicion” earlier in the evening .. around 5 pm.
And .. what amazed me was that I had been thinking that as I watched the coverage. Too many fires started all at once .. as soon as one was put out .. there were several more starting up. Somebody setting the fires was my first thought.
That’s a badass pilot right there!
It’s an original image that has been “helped” a little, detail and contrast was increased, maybe a posterization filter applied. It was already a fairly surreal looking image. Doing this made it even mores.
