Speaking of thorns, Jules came in from outside this AM and when he was eating his AM cookie started to yelp like something hurt. I looked at him and he had some piece of a jagger bush sticking out from his behind (thorny big piece of twig) when I went to pull it from his butt it hurt like hell bc of the thorns. I had to use a dish towel to extricate it from his hairy butt! And it took quite a bit of effort bc it was stuck tight! No wonder he was yelping. I’ve pretty much decided to shave him for the summer when the groomer comes next. The groomer suggested it and I was horrified bc cavs have a distinctive look which I love. But he’s SUCH a hairy beast he’s got way too much hair. Patty my Dogwalker assures me it will grow back by winter, so he’s gonna get the crew cut!
You said “jagger bushes.” You know that’s Pittsburgh.
Sounds like a job for the kitchen pliers.
I took our Chow to the groomer for a bear clip every Spring-he had the hair from hell, too which was a magnet for burrs and thorn bush twigs that stuck tight, just like you are describing. His lovely double coat of fur always grew back by the time it was getting cold, and he was so much happier to be cooler in summer-Jules will probably love it, too.
Fortunately, Huskies’ fur doesn’t mat-the top coat and under coat are incredibly thick, but not long, like a Chow’s, so no need for a Spring shavedown-just combing out the shed fur every day, till about October...
I know it is ! and xsgirls said WHAT? When I used the term! I couldn’t think of a different one. Just have not had occasion to use the term bc I’m not even sure where he got into such a thing, we don’t have anything JAGGY in the yard!
I’ve never seen a shaved cav so it makes me a bit nervous, but I know he will be more comfortable. When I was waiting for chan to be drained the week before last, someone at the vet had a Sussex spaniel which had been shaved, so I started thinking more about it.
I’ve never seen a shaved small Spaniel before, but it is so common here with all the dog breeds with long, tang-ley fur, whether large or small, because it gets hot. I don’t remember when I’ve seen a Chow without a bear or lion clip, or a Poodle-any size-or Lhasa without a lamb clip in Summer...
We get River a really short haircut each summer, too.
Makes him look really small.
He’s due for it now, it can be hard to find the latch on his collar for hooking his leash cause he has so much neck fur.
Neck fur. Definitely a guy thing. ;)
We don’t have any fawns dropping yet. Usually happens right around Memorial Day here.
Jules has tons of neck fur!
His ears and the feathered hair on his legs as well as his tail better be left as is.
They do River’s legs with the fur feathered back, too.
What else would you call a bush with jaggers on it?
Do other people not call them Jagger’s?
I believe they do not.
Thorns? I think thorns are bigger than jaggers. By the way autocorrect insists its Jagger’s. As in belonging to mick.
Might you actually mean “lugubrious?”
Sorry, the pedant role is currently being played by Soothingdave, but perhaps you could be an understudy ; )
Darn. Time for new glasses, as the screen appears blurry to me, can’t even identify misspellings.
Hmmn.
You are discussing (in public even! )various people becoming understudies for pulling and poking Jagger’s thorny bushes in the shaved under backsides of various male bushes that poked into their nether regions???? Kinky!
