If you have never heard of John Taylor Gatto, you should.
I believe most FReepers will be smiling and nodding while listening to this speech. It's about an hour long. Bookmark it and schedule yourself an uninterrupted hour to listen. Audio only.
Bookmarked, listened to one of his shorter vids great stuff.
Excellent stuff.
It's an excellent overview telling how the U.S. - lock, stock and barrel - the late 19th century Prussian grade school system along with the demonstrated results.
I think its priceless, very approachable, without touching too long on the subversion of our teacher colleges by "progressive" deweyism.
It's also a great tool for bringing those outside political circles, i.e. 'parents,' up to speed without touching on the fashionable prejudices against Reason among parents who are, themselves, victims of the marxist orthodoxy.
Gatto does an excellent job of answering the question, 'how we got here,' entertainingly.
