I was talking to my friend, the black obama-voting paralegal. she is by and large conservative, a devout Christian, and we were talking about the Michael Sam thing and i said it's going to be illegal to be Christian in this country before long. She said in many ways it is now, while not illegal, definitely frowned upon. She has a 5-6 yo granddaughter. The grandbaby's mom and a friend of her's were talking about a work situation between two women, the one is charging sexual harassment claiming the supervisor "wants" her. Betty said that her daughter and the friend were on a diff floor and whispering about this situation. But Betty was driving the little girl somewhere and she said Grandma, when i grow up i'm going to marry a girl... Betty said she nearly drove off the road. Betty said, oh no, you will be friends with them, and then went into the whole man-woman marriage deal etc. She called her daughter- the child's mother-- who was horrified and said, where is she getting this??? and she spoke to her other daughter, who was equally horrified. This is the real life consequence of this situation. Little kids walking into the room to see the kiss, who are not getting any explanation from their parents, and being brainwashed at every turn that this is perfectly fine. For some reason i clicked on Patrick Burke's twitter feed last night and was reading it. He was disgusted with parents asking WHAT TO TELL MY KIDs, when they see/ask about the michael sam kiss, his retort was tell them it's two people who care about each other, You're welcome, parents.
