Our present situation says a lot about human nature. When required to sustain themselves humans over achieve and strive for a life of comfort. When given a life of comfort for nothing, humans sit around and wait for a check.

Look how fast the government took native Americans, hardy subsistence tribes, and what the reservations look like now. Look at the welfare class created by the "Great Society." Same thing, handouts and the systematic destruction of every institution that had a positive influence on those people.

Give it a couple more years of expanded unemployment benefits and we will create another large group of non-productive citizens.

I have bad news, we already have that large group. Numbers on SSDI are up by >100% since 2000.

While some of this is due to an aging overall population, that doesn't begin to explain a 100% jump in <15 years.

There was a Stossel episode that illustrated this beautifully. There was a photo of a couple of fields taken from the air. Both were on "Indian land," one was owned and managed by the federal government, the other was privately owned. The government owned field was a mess, while the privately owned field had crops ready for harvest.
