Never got why no story by Niven ever got
made into a movie.
Ringworld would be a hoot to see on the
big screen.Always been fascinated by the protectors
Guess I`d rather see the Motie movie tho

Wasn’t Ringworld made into a TV mini-series?

"...Never got why no story by Niven ever got made into a movie..."
I love Larry Niven's work, but:
(1) He is still alive, so his work will still be expensive to license
(2) His stuff is often complex, and understood only in the context of his "Known Space" history and universe. This might be difficult to convey in a 2 hour movie.
(3) His characters solve problems with REASON and EFFORT. Less "Bang-Bang / Zap-Zap"
Now I think that Sci-Fi movies should be about IDEAS, and if they have to bend a little physics for the sake of moving the plot along, I cut them some slack.
FORBIDDEN PLANET
GATTACA
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
JURASSIC PARK
THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951)
BICENTENNIAL MAN
MINORITY REPORT
This list is just a few that I believe were more about IDEAS than ACTION (although some contain their fair share of action sequences).
Ideas like exploring the nature of free will, humanity, science and morality.
