“Beggar” was how I learned it. Jeremy wouldn’t be in any trouble at all if he had ‘rapped’ the original line.
That was my thought as well. “Catch a tiger by the toe” must have taken on racial connotations after Mr. Woods became a celebrity. I wish they’d at least make an announcement when harmless prose becomes toxic. How is one to ever know???
Maybe if he would have enunciated the offending word using the “a” ending instead of the “er” ending he wouldn’t be in so much trouble?
Apparently all you have to do is give the impression that you even know the rhyme with the “N” word in it, and that is enough to brand you as a racist.
I learned it...in the 1950's,middle class white neighborhood...to be a name for black people that's seldom used today.
It didn’t used to be “tiger.”
