They represent great, old cities at the heart of each country's history. Each city has a unique spirit. If dropped blindfolded into one or the other, you would know at first glimpse: the brownstones of Commonwealth Avenue, the exterior three-story ironwork walk-ups of St. Denis. You are unmistakably in Boston, unmistakably in Montreal. You can be no place else in North America.
Montreal is geographically closer to Boston than to Toronto. Montreal and Boston, each in their histories, has had this thing about the British. And during Prohibition, Montreal was where many strait-laced Brahmins escaped for funfor booze, gambling and night spots that never closed, where nobody knew their name. The great bands of the jazz age came with themDuke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker. When Prohibition ended, they kept on coming. Prohibition had quenched a thirst and created an appetite. Today, remnants of that time are still felt in the annual Montreal Jazz Festival, the world's largest.

Dryden and Esposito, those were the days.
Go Habs Go!!!
Gotta love an Original 6 playoff series.
Iv'e seen games when Ken Dryden who wrote this article, was their goaltender. He was called the "octopus" as he could really cover the net with his gyrations.
Dryden later went into politics in Canada as a left winger. -Tom
Yes. The new game since the strike ain’t the same somehow.
When Plante used the mask others tried it but had trouble finding the puck after a save when the puck was at their feet and they didn't like that aspect.
In your photo Bruins Jerry Cheevers had his mask formed and fitted to his face and improvements made to see down at his feet. I believe this helped other goalies get used to using a mask. -Tom
I don't care who wins, as you can tell from my tag line. I just went to see a good game. It will be on here, in a few minutes.
Old time hockey!
I remember when the players didn't wear helmets and I miss those days. I think the goalies should wear a mask because the puck is much more likely to hit them in the teeth at 90mph. However, remember how the players like Bobby Orr and Bobby Clarke raced down the ice with their long hair flowing. And you could actually see who they were without having to look at the numbers on their uniform and consult a roster chart.
There was a particular Bruins game I attended back in early 1973. It was a long time ago. Elton John was just starting to get popular and nobody knew yet who Jimmy Carter was except for a few people down in Georgia. Those were innocent times. Anyway, I remember that the score ended up being a 4-2 loss against the Detroit Red Wings but I don't remember who scored the goals. It was a long time ago. I do remember Red Berenson with that red bandanna.
Boston Bruins...President's Trophy...highest "goals for" this season, second lowest "goals against" this season.
I still hate the Bruins so I'll say Go Habs.
Always remember that the Bruins still hate you!
I hate the Rangers, too. I hope soon the Whalers will be back. The NHL need to bring back teams to Quebec and Hartford, and cut the idea that hockey in Miami sells.
