It was nice to finally get around to digging out all those related links, showing the Roman expansion into the Baltic area and well east of the Rhine; there’s been a creeping myth about how the Varian Disaster halted Roman expansion, which is an anachronistic nationalist myth which developed out of modern study of surviving ancient sources.
