The name itself probably carried some psychological damage.

Social psychologists actually have a term for it, nominative determinism. Although "determinism" is a bit too strong a word for the influence on personality a name can bring.

“Nominative” is one of those words that I’ve not only never heard of, I can’t even understand the definition of it. But I understand year meaning—if you’re called something long enough, it might begin to influence your behavior.
