It’s been almost 40 years since Wolverine’s first appearance on the very last page of The Incredible Hulk #180. In comic book time, of course, Wolverine is much older: Over a hundred years old, a century-plus lifespan that has seen the man called Logan become a soldier, a samurai, a superhero, an X-Man, an Avenger, the amnesiac victim of horrific scientific experiments, a renegade, a teacher.
This September, that’s going to end.

Yeah, Wolverine, a.k.a Jimmy Logan, a.k.a. James Howlett, is a Canadian, born circa 1845 in Alberta.
In the comics, he was originally in the Canadian Army and then Canadian Intelligence through the 1960s. But in the first film, he’s depicted as being in the Union Army during the Civil War, and then the U.S. Army in both World Wars and Vietnam, where and Sabertooth are “executed” for murdering their platoon leader.
Stupid, cynical attempt to manufacture an event to cash in. He’ll be back in no time. I’ve collected Marvel comics for 40 years. Right now, I’m barely hanging on for little more than nostalgia. Back in the day, the House of Ideas made a name for itself by producing character driven, engaging stories. And when a character died, it was shocking and no guarantee that that character would be back. Now, death and resurrection are nothing more than plot devices and huge events that shatter the status quo “forever” are practically a monthly thing.
The House of Ideas has become the House of Creative Bankruptcy.
All “creative endeavors” in the pop-driven MSM are reboots/re-imagining. Whether it is Broadway adapting films for the stage (with “creative recasting choices”) or movies being remade, tv-series/movie franchises being rebooted every 10-20 years, bands touring out old albums (or releasing new re-recordings of their classic albums with contemporary guest stars or even re-recording someone else’s album), etc.
House of Ideas? Original thoughts are not welcome today.
Stores were stuck with a glut of “high priced” but worthless shiny books that no one was reading (”these are for resale later!”).
Back in the olden days an unsold book had it’s cover torn off and sent back to the company. The book was then destroyed.
If you knew where to look, you could find stores with lots of books with mutilated covers, and torn off titles on comic books for a few cents. They weren’t destroyed.
You can still get magazines that way too.
Some will toss them by the entrance/exit door.
The big brick and mortars don’t send back the full unsold paperbooks or magazines that they stock. They rip off enough of the cover to get reimbursed and save on postage.
Well, Wolverine is Canadian, so....
