You probably have a variation in the enzymes that metabolize alcohol. Some people convert alcohol to toxic metabolites making drinking an unpleasant exercise.
I don’t know about my enzymes, but my taste buds said Wild Turkey tasted like turpentine.
I figured if this is what a “good” whiskey tastes like, no sense trying any others.
That was 1968.
Same thing happened with cigarettes. I was ten, Mom light up a fresh one at the breakfast table. It smelled good so I asked her if I could try a puff. She gave it to me and I took one puff and started choking. Never tried one again.
