Practice makes perfect.....post on....
it is a GREAT SONG! african american worship is just so joyful. We went to a Mass in Wilmington DE once when xsboy was in a hockey tournament up there. it was an african american catholic congregation and it was infused with gospel music and clapping, very different, but very fun.
i agree not everything has to be unisex, but the use of the term “hen party”, and acting like a MAN would want to be on MARS rather than among women at a shower was an extreme 1950s stereotypical male reaction. And the fact that i am the one saying that, and i hate feminists and that whole schtick just goes to show how ridic it was!
there are showers where both halves of couples are invited. i think it’s unnecessary. but not because menfolk are too cerebral to be included in such froth and airheadedness.
I apologize for the term “hen party”, I didn’t realize you would take such offense to it.
But I do think that most men would rather be anywhere else than at a bridal shower.
in fact, i fear that xsfiance WOULD do such a thing, bc we often say that he is the woman in this relationship and his interactions with his circle of friends is far more stereotypically WOMANISH than xsteen and her friends. And these guys are either present or past military, so they are not metrosexuals. He is far more sentimental and talks on the phone to them etc. whereas xsteen at best texts or FB messages her friends, and she has FAR FEWER than he does. They each have 7 attendants in this wedding party. 3 of her’s are cousins. His are all friends, save his brother and xsboy. AND he has to have some sort of role for 3 others, including readers etc. at the Mass, bc he doesn’t want their feelings to be hurt!
what if the bridal shower menu was wings and beer and the activity was a Monty Python or The Big Lebowski marathon? is it the presence of women that is so offensive or their insipid activities?
I am so on board with you on that
it is purely ignorance on their part. It is the priest’s duty to explain that. Father Etsio, since he took over as pastor, has done a great job of giving explanations for things in the Mass. The proper way to make the sign of the cross, with one hand on heart, then the sign and then putting the hands together at the end. The meaning of the little signs of the cross on the forehead, lips and chest [May the Word of God be on my mind, on my lips and in my heart] I especially am grateful bc xsfiance isn’t Catholic and this is a perfect way to clue him in to things. He is doing a great job of teaching.
I might think about attending that one, but that’s not what happens at a bridal shower, is it?
It’s more about finger sandwiches and opening gifts of linens and such.
We may very well evolve to having “couple showers” but until that time, men should feel uncomfortable at a lady’s party.
I still do that(3 crosses) at the Gospel and have seen more than one former Catholic at my church do the same.
Jeez - I didn’t even know that was a thing people stopped doing....I be so outta touch
Amen
I watched the Fargo series last night. It was good. You should def check it out. Tuesdays at 10 et on Fx.
all bridal showers are not created equal, and couples showers are something that HAVE already evolved.
it’s still done in all catholic churches, SG just means she does it as a former Catholic, as do others at her episcopal church.
Not out here. You know we’re at least 20 years behind fashion. LOL
We had 4 chicks hatch yesterday.
I don’t know what your womenfolk talk about but my friends have interesting conversations. Don’t tell me you would not be fascinated to hear my friend Paula discourse on what objects women have come in with imbedded up in themselves, or the ones who have that nonstop orgasm disorder etc.
at LEAST! heck the radio stations still play the music they played when i lived there 40 years ago!
'I have the cure for that' - the sad line that you don't want to work...
