High school seniors and their parents packed the USD 501 Board of Education Thursday night with a strong message: don't let Michelle Obama upstage the students' special moment.
Topeka Public Schools announced Thursday morning that it is combining its graduation ceremonies because they learned earlier in the week that the First Lady will give her only high school commencement speech in Topeka on May 17, on the 60th anniversary of the Brown v. Board ruling.

Why? To get a 10 second piece on the evening news, showing her looking smart at the podium...reminiscing about how bad whitey used to be.
The problem? Her visit has forced the consolidation of multiple high school graduations into one large event - but the venue isn't big enough. So each graduate will get 4 tickets to the event. If you've got more relatives that want to go to your graduation...the district is considering putting them in a gym and doing a simulcast!
The insult to injury: Ever two bit hack politician in a 30 mile radius will be there...taking up valuable space at the venue.
The schadenfreude: These are Barry's base...suddenly discovering how disposable they are. Their event, their celebration of 18 years of effort - not nearly as important as Michelle's 10 second spot on the evening news. Not even the invitations they sent out are correct anymore, since the time has changed.
Isn’t this the epitome of big government interference, gotta have space for the cronies....
The Queen must have her moment - little people be damned.
And everybody gets a free cavity search before watching Jr. graduate.
They will be inconvenienced to a point where they will demand a bigger arena or else they will cry racism.
And the taxpayers will meekly oblige.
From the article:
“Ford says she understands Mrs. Obama’s appearance will create some inconvenience, but she says it is a memorable way for the school district that is at the center of the Brown vs Board case to mark the 60th anniversary of the ruling desegregating schools.”
I for one, and sick and tired of these liberals celebrating the anniversaries of all the great events in our nation’s history out of one side of their mouths, and telling us that America is evil out of the other.
“It really changed America and it is an opportunity to reflect on that,” Ford said.
Yes - it DID change America - but made the schools worse. I went to school in a small town with one high school, and we all went together without too much trouble. In the bigger cities, the stupid courts started mandating that kids had to go across town, so thousands of private schools sprang up all across the country.
“Ford says students are still the focus of the ceremony and the district plans to include each schools personal touches, such as the bagpipes of Highland Park.”
He is so full of bull hockey that it’s spilling out his ears. It’s NOT about the students any more. It’s about his opportunity to have his heart race as he shakes hands with his “goddess”.
My graduating class was about to be forced to use our aging gymnasium where the Fire Marshall said we could only have so many people. It would have limited us to 4 tickets, just like these kids.
We told the School Superintendent he was going to have trouble on his hands if he did that (and he knew we meant it), so he relented and we had it on the football field.
Bottom line, REAL Americans do what they want to, and it really ticks liberals off. Now they spend all their time telling people why they should hate conservatives. The decision that we should all have access to a good education is correct. The decision to force people to do it the government way has ruined our educational system.
You are right. But Michelle may get more than 10 seconds on the news. The liberals in the media want to celebrate this anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education, so they can talk about how things are with race relations, discrminiation, etc. in this country.
And there will be talking head programs, perhaps featuring some such as Sharpton or Jackson, saying that while much has changed in this country, that we still have a long way to go.
The media and the liberals are hijacking the graduations to give themselves a liberal talking point on civil rights. Those of us who are more conservative see it for what it is.
But those more liberal always talk of civil rights actions as being part of a goal which is not yet achieved. It’s very predictable that Michelle will say that while Brown vs. Board of Education was a landmark ruling, that we still have not achieved the dream of Dr. King, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Who was responsible for inviting her to speak at a graduation in Kansas? They should be tarred and feathered.
OK kids, here’s your chance to rebel.
Just put that “Impeach Obama” bumper sticker on your graduation cap.
When MooseChelle makes a stirring verbal point, jump up and wave it like crazy.
Fyi....Ford is a woman.
I doubt she was invited. Even if she says she was invited, I dont believe it.
Wide bodied beard, you mean.
Were I graduating, I’d skip it. Get with some like minded kids and have a great time at Buffalo Wild Wings or some such place.
Given the level of disruption these “people” leave in their wake, I wouldn’t want ever to be within 1,000 miles of them.
