Here is a picture of my GG grandfather’s mill in Madison County, Va. There are invoices from the Confederate government in the archives with his signature for the flour he produced from this mill.

Fascinating! My family and I have lived in Northern VA for a couple of decades. Having lived different places around the country and around the world, we love it here: Virginia is a beautiful state with much history.

On family trips we would often pass by intriguing abandoned homesteads throughout the state. I would wonder about the lives of those who lived there. As a writer, at one time I thought about researching a book that would combine photos of abandoned homes with the stories of those who settled there.

I was surprised to see that my son, who now lives and works downstate, also found and "liked" the Facebook site. Perhaps he was stirred by the memories of our family trips.

Thanks for posting!
