Word For The Day, Monday, 4/14/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

bien-pensant; noun; adj.

1.Right-thinking, orthodox, conformist; conservative.  [quotations ▼] 2010, Bagehot, The Economist, 23 Aug 2010: He hopes Mr Abbott wins the election in part because it would, he says, annoy bien-pensant British journalists and Leftists who oppose the Australian's positions on things like abortion, gay marriage or climate change. 2.Someone who accepts and/or espouses a fashionable idea after it has been established and maintains it without a great amount of critical thought.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Etymology: French ; from bien, well + present participle of penser, to think

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

His family owned the land since the 1890’s, and it was taken from them with no compensation, and you feel he should be on the hook for grazing fees for land that was stolen from them?

The governmnet swops in with helicopters and snipers and assualt family members, and people feel it’s the militia’s
looking for a fight?

Which side are these people on? This is Free Republic, right? I’m confused.

these roads at issue here encircle the city, and have nothing to do with keeping people out of the city. And in fact, it could be argued that the HOT lanes on 95/395, enable those who live south of the city, to drive within metro distance of the city. if they were interested in keeping the city accessible to all, the price of METRO would not be as high as it is. NYC subway is far cheaper than that in DC. I don’t think people who do not routinely live with this congestion have any idea of how much of a mental toll it takes on you, and how paying to avoid even a BIT of it, is a godsend.

Haha - the Lexus Lanes....I’m so sick of those attacking the “rich”. Every single one of us is “richer” than someone else. Even the poorest in the United States is richer than someone, somewhere. With some exceptions, those who are whining the most about income disparity made poor choices and want others to pay for that.

But toll roads are a luxury - we pay to use that luxury. Just as we pay for food prepared by someone else, or pay for a phone or cable. That is an individual choice and it is ridiculous for someone who claims to be a conservative writer to even bring up the subject

The article I read said it was government owned land BEFORE his family began grazing - am I wrong? Did his family own the land or not?

That's not what I read. Are you saying he does not graze on federal land?

His Muslim friends won’t be happy that he chose that evil man. And he is evil, in many ways. His divorce was just the beginning of his descent.

Didn’t the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the pyramids, and the Aqueducts come long before Choo-choo Charlie?

choosing anything over God is wrong, but most especially this which is prohibited by the Bible. I have no idea how supposed believers justify it to themselves.
