Co-pilot of MH370 tried to make a call from his mobile phone AFTER the aircraft 'vanished'...
The Daily Mail Online ^ | April 12, 2014 | RICHARD SHEARS and TARA BRADY

but he 'was abruptly cut off'

The co-pilot of missing flight MH370 made a call from his mobile phone as the aircraft flew low over the west coast of Malaysia.

Investigators have learned that the call was made from Fariq Abdul Hamid's mobile phone as the Boeing 777 flew low near the island of Penang, on the north of Malaysia's west coast.

The New Straits Times reported today that it was understood the aircraft, with 239 people on board, was flying low enough for the nearest telecommunications tower to pick up Fariq's signal.

The call ended abrupty, however it has been learned that contact was definitely established with a telecommunications sub-station in Penang state.

The paper said it had been unable to ascertain who Fariq was trying to call 'as sources chose not to divulge details of the investigation.'

It added: 'The telco's (telecommunications company's) tower established the call that he was trying to make. 'On why the call was cut off, it was likely because the aircraft was fast moving away from the tower and had not come under the coverage of the next one,' the paper said, quoting 'sources'....

The dramatic revelation that Fariq tried to make a phone call after regular communication from the aircraft to ground control was lost opens up a new field of speculation - and more questions about the mysterious disappearance of the jet.

If Fariq was able to make a call, why was there no attempt by the pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, to also make a mobile phone call?...

Is there a plane down there with that black box and is that black box MH370’s black box?

He is more than right. When someone from the flight crew needs access to the flight deck, it has to be opened from the flight deck. On several occasions, I have witnessed some piece of paper or form delivered to a crew member from the ground crew and the attendant knocks on the door until it is opened from inside for the pilots to get the form. The cabin crew does not have a key to the door.

Wanna bet they find that pinger down south and then they come to a conclusion it was NOT from 370?
Almost dead batteries, dropped in very very deep waters.
The last minute phone call?

All comms are being blanked out by jammers of escort aircraft but just before that one person manages to get connected.

“I’m still not convinced the plane ended up off the coast of Australia”

Me too neither. I think the answer is closer to North Korea than to Australia. Were not the Norks doing some "missile testing" about the time MH370 disappeared?

Maybe he was locked out of the cabin? That’s been my personal theory—co-pilot goes out to the bathroom, or to chat with the stewardesses, and the pilot locks him out and hijacks the plane.

Or ordered out, yes. The pilot hijacked then crashed it, knowing it would embarass the Malaysian government and focus attention on the likely trumpted up charges against Anwar.

The last part hasn't gotten traction, but that is more than compensated for by Malaysia's continued FUBAR handling of events and the ensuing distain and derision its generating, so he was successful.

It would seem that the excursion to 45,000ft would have killed him if he was in the passenger compartment.

Is it possible that he may made the call at 45,000ft out of range and that it didn’t connect until it was in range and then only briefly???

They had plenty of time to prepare one and dump it there while they had everyone looking somewhere else. Even if they find a black box - or both of them - I won't be convinced at this point.

They have keys.

A little drop of Super Glue will defeat a key in a couple of seconds.

With so much evidence pointing to the pilot who was/is Anwar's cousin one would think that Anwar was either in on this or knew about it and he would stay in the shadows and keep his mouth shut while the government tries to drag him in for questioning.

However look at what is happening --

Anwar comes out and accuses the government of incompetence in their response to the disappearance and the government is scared to death to point the fingers at his cousin Captain Shah as the likely culprit in the cockpit.

Go figure --

Saw a theory where the pilot hijacked the plane & flew it west while ‘negotiating’ with the Malaysian government about the release of Anwar. They either released him or the pilot would take down the plane. The Malays called his bluff and the pilot wasn’t bluffing. Great reason for the Malays to keep the search in an area for a couple of days where they KNEW the plane was not and to be obfuscating, giving out false info, and not wanting the plane/black boxes found. Can you imagine China’s outrage if they knew the Malays didn’t work it out with the pilot so their 150 passengers on MH370 were saved? It was just a theory, but it answers a lot of questions as to the Malays inaction and worse.

The pilot might have been busy flying a disabled plane or in the men's room, when they went by the tower. - Tom

Why go through that much trouble???

Why dump it in 15,000 feet of water and go thru all the trouble to recover it since it is possible that you may not???

Why not just keep it on the deck, pour some sea water on it, and say look what we just found.

Who would know???

Ohh yehhh -- I forgot about the data inside -- the agencies of 5 separate countries will want to examine it.

The problem with that is cousin Anwar is not in prison --

And he has been very vocal accusing the Malaysian government of incompetence in this matter.

Perhaps they should oblige him and pick him up and bring him in for questioning and let the FBI do it.

Pushing the speculation envelope, I would say this was mostly a spur-of-the-moment decision - a few days max. I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary. Then it's not likely at all that Anwar knew about it.

Also, isn't he under arrest already? And that is a very contentious situation in Malaysia. Seems to me he would want to use the event to further publicize his situation, not the reverse. The weaker the current gov't and PM are, the stronger his own position. And there's not a whole bunch more the current gov't can do to him. He's facing 5 years in in jail which comes with a permanent ban on holding political office so they are not able to intimidate him.

They have keys.

Keys won't help if there is a dead bolt lock inside the cabin. I heard it stated that some 777s have that feature.-Tom
