Cops seem to generally assume that people are lying to them. I return the favor. I see no reason to give a cop’s word any more credence than any other random person, which is to say not very much.

LEOs are allowed by law to lie to you. However, they are not allowed to subvert justice or the law (yes there is a difference) by falsifying, ignoring, or destroying evidence or filing a false report.

But look at it from their point of view: the JBT and all his pals on the force who supported him and looked the other way got to go home safe that night.

And who knows? They might get the chance to shoot an innocent dog later on!

Oh, and yes, I am quite serious about that one thing: Courts have ruled numerous times that LEOs can lie to you if it "solves the case" (brings the case to court), hopefully locking away a "bad guy".

The law needs to be changed. In theory, all government employees are working for the public. Intentionally lying to a citizen should be a felony for any government employee.
