Actually, when the dad confronted the boy in the daughter’s room, he asked if she knew who he was. She said no, so the dad thought his daughter was being assaulted or raped and he shot him.
You left out an important step. The “boy” would not comply with the father’s demands and, with a gun trained on him, made a sudden grab for something on the floor... all after hearing the girl deny letting him in.
