Yes, actually it was the first two words on the essay that clinched his admission: his name.

Universities are so desperate to have minorities (i.e., Negros) that they almost come to blows to get one that is "clean and doesn't speak with a negro dialect."

I would not be causing orgasms at Ivy League schools if I had scored a 1250 on my SATs.

Roger that. A literate essay, in combination with the name on the top, is what got Kwasi his pick of colleges.

Nothing More. Change the name to "John/Jane Smith" and it turns into a crapshoot.

His name and skin color. I am NOT saying he’s not qualified or didn’t deserve it. However my daughter scored 2310 on her SATs, a 35 (of 36) on the ACTs, took at least 11 AP courses, and was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She speaks two languages, held 2 jobs at once during junior & senior years - 3 over the summer. Lived & studied abroad for a bit. Four Ivys rejected her. They are unintersted in white girls from small-town NY.
